Q: Tell us a little about your current role and what you enjoy most about your work.
A: I am currently the Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility for the Special School District of St. Louis County. The ability to connect with people all across St. Louis County has been an incredible experience. To be able to lead diverse groups of people in conversation around the importance of an inclusive workspace and championing the essence of fruitful collaboration has been rewarding.

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in Human Resources?
A: I am a lifelong learner, creator, and enthusiast of excellence. As a social introvert, I value ensuring that our talent and assets are met with progressive work conditions and timely support. My family continues to be my engine for keeping “the bar” high and know that my active work will continue to the success of both students and adults.

Q: What’s one HR initiative, project, or accomplishment you’re especially proud of?
A: I am most proud of supporting a team of colleagues to pursue the equity in our organization, positions, and processes. This was heavy work which entailed data analysis, employee engagement, and extensive research.

Q: What’s a current trend or challenge in HR that you’re passionate about or keeping a close eye on?
A: Sounds interesting...but I am interested in conflict resolution and mediation. I think the workplace is evolving to be more dynamic and our employees may have challenges in working with other people who do not share their ideology or perspective. I think developing these skills are crucial.

Q: Why did you choose to join SHRM-STL, and what value has it brought to you professionally or personally?
A: I chose SHRM-STL because we have an incredible city and a responsibility for excellence. I want to be part of that...

Q: What’s one piece of career or life advice you’ve received that’s stuck with you?
A: “Do it scared.” - Ryan Leak
I know I will not have all the answers. I also know, I will miss the mark. But, regardless of me succeeding or failing...I learned something.
