Recognizing Great SHRM St. Louis Leaders on National Boss' Day!

Posted on 10/13/2023 12:00 am  /   October 2023

Employees around the world/country celebrate National Boss’s Day on or around October 16th each year. In keeping with this tradition, we are highlighting the leaders of SHRM St. Louis and discussing some of the work that they do for the chapter and its members throughout the year. Since a group of like-minded professionals founded the Industrial Relations Council in 1942, and then partnered with the Society for Human Resources Management in 1957, individuals have been stepping up to lead SHRM St. Louis while mentoring members.

Our current chapter leaders, President – Mel Jones, President-Elect – Katie Magoon, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, Vice President-Administration – Brendan Dusha, Vice President-Communications – Khianna Ward DeGarmo, Vice President-Development – Robin Wood, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, Vice President-Diversity & Workforce Readiness - Chris Vansickle, SHRM-SCP, Vice President-Membership - Erika Nilles-Plumlee, SHRM-CP, Vice President-Programs – Barry Engelhardt, SHRM-SCP, Past President – Andrew Metcalf, SHRM-SCP, and Executive Director – Beth Quick-Andrews, CAE, work throughout the year to bring us worthwhile meetings and events, as well as educational and networking opportunities.

Board members commit to attending monthly meetings to consider, plan, and act upon vital organizational agenda items such as current and future budgets, membership, committee activities, and events. These focuses allow our leaders to competently perform duties that include serving on one of thirteen chapter committees, educating themselves on current member needs or concerns, recruiting new members, continually monitoring chapter programs and performance for the benefit of membership, and occasional speaking assignments when approved to do so.

In addition to these Board members, we recognize other chapter leaders for their work that advances and sustains SHRM St. Louis’ active role in the community. These reliable individuals contribute to the planning and execution of activities and programs that members benefit from each day, including community relations, recruitment, programming, resource development, young professional activities, mentoring, conferences, educational opportunities, workforce engagement, and committee onboarding.

Now that we’ve expressed our appreciation for the ongoing SHRM St. Louis leadership, we hope that other members might be encouraged to lend their thoughts and skills to current and future chapter leadership positions! A list of opportunities with descriptions and links to contacts can be found HERE!
