Do You Want to Serve on the Nominating Committee?
Every year, our SHRM St. Louis Board of Directors selects a Nominating Committee of about six chapter members. That committee is charged with recommending a slate of officers to serve on the Board of Directors.
At our November 2021 chapter meeting, the slate will be proposed, and the entire chapter in attendance is invited to vote on approving the slate.
Don’t delay - Do you want to serve on the Nominating Committee, and be involved in selecting our next Board of Directors?
If so, please let us know you are interested by emailing me, Immediate Past-President Mary Ames-Smith, SHRM-CP, PHR, at [email protected]. Provide us with a short paragraph about why you’d like to serve to select our next leaders for shaping the future of the organization.
Any SHRM STL member is eligible to be selected for the committee. So if you’re interested, now’s the time to raise your hand to be called upon. We want the committee to reflect and compliment the overall diversity of our membership ranks. It should include: new members and tenured members; business partners and practitioners; those who have served in leadership, and those who participate in our chapter's events. We hope you will apply so we can celebrate that.
What happens after the committee is selected?
Once the Board selects the Nominating Committee, the next step will be for the committee to solicit Board applications for positions. The positions on the Board to which members can be nominated are:
President-Elect (i.e., President in 2023)*
Vice President of Administration
Vice President of Communications
Vice President of Development*
Vice President of Membership*
Vice President of Programs
Vice President of Workforce Readiness & Inclusion of Diversity*
The positions for 2022, President (Andrew Metcalf) and Immediate Past-President (Ben Houseman) are slated to serve.
Our Chapter’s bylaws allow Board members to be nominated for up to two consecutive terms in the same position. For the four positions marked with an asterisk above, the Board Members holding those positions are currently in their second and final terms in that particular position. For the other positions (i.e., those not marked with an asterisk), currently have an incumbent Board member who will be eligible to be nominated to that position again in 2022.
In the past, it has often been highly encouraged and practiced that Chapter members serve two terms in the same Board role, to promote continuity and the development of our operations in different areas for effectiveness.
If you are interested in applying for a SHRM St. Louis Board position in 2022, and have any questions or want to discuss your interest, feel free to reach out to Mary at [email protected] or Andrew at [email protected]
For now, we look forward to hearing from you about your interest in serving on a Nominating Committee!
