Message From the President

Posted on 05/18/2022 12:00 am  /   May 2022

As we approach the halfway point to this calendar year, I wanted to write a note to thank all our volunteers for putting together a fantastic lineup of programming for us so far.

And what a year it has been.

Programs. Our meeting speakers have included a federal judge, mediators, more than a dozen attorneys at our legal update, and three military veterans. Just this week, fellow members Barry Englehardt and Julio Govreau led a great discussion for us about high-potential talent and their development.

And we have much more in store for members, as you can see from this newsletter alone. I look forward to seeing you at these upcoming events.

From a former member. This week, I also received a note from one of our former members, Mary Smith (not to be confused with our former President, Mary Ames-Smith), who worked in HR at bioMerieux for about 14 years before retiring in 2020 (and had other HR roles at the Adam's Mark Hotel, Maritz, and Anheuser Busch). I was sad to hear that her husband, James Michael Smith, recently passed away. Mr. Smith was prolific St. Louis artist, and his family has organized an exhibit of his work at the Gallery at the District to honor his legacy. I'd encourage you to learn more and check it out.

Thank you. I also want to thank those who sponsored us this year: Ogletree Deakins (the firm of our State SHRM Director Jim Paul), Milliman (where our own Board Member Tammy McAllister is a leader), MOST 529, and Occhio Search & Recruitment. Soon we'll start to recruit sponsors for our next conference and fiscal year, and we're very grateful to those who stuck with us through the pandemic. We're also very thankful for the hard work of those at Q&A Business Solutions, who have worked diligently to help us navigate the difficulties of running a networking organization during a pandemic.

I'm so happy to be on our Chapter's Board of Directors as we celebrate our successes and look forward to the future. See you at our upcoming events!

Andrew
