6 Technologies Your Business Can Use to Promote Workplace Safety
Business Technology is always changing at the speed of light. It happens so quickly that a small percentage of businesses can keep up. When you make that plan to upgrade your computers, network, and cybersecurity infrastructure make sure you look at tech devices that can help improve workplace safety. It is great that you have technology available to make your business make more money, but an employee that feels safe in your business environment is happy and productive. If you are looking for new ways to make your business safe for your employees, check out these pieces of technology that you should consider.
Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. You may think that VR and AR are limited to video games like Pokémon Go, but many safety programs that utilize virtual reality and augmented reality already exist. The advantage of these programs is they allow your workforce to have hands-on experience engaging in activities that simulate real-life tasks. Things such as utilizing office equipment, safety training drills, and more can help improve safety measures. You can also use this technology to simulate day-to-day tasks in your workplace before your employees start working to limit on-the-job injuries.
Drones. I am sure your workforce would love to have a couple of drones to race around your office to pass the time, but these devices can come in handy as they can help you monitor areas in your business or on the Jobsite that are not easily accessible and can put your employees at risk. A good business drone is going to require a little bit of investment, but that investment is better than your business dealing with a worker’s comp claim or the risk of having key personnel out for an extended period because of injury.
Ergonomics. This technology has been around for a while, but it is something you should not overlook for your workforce. If you have staff that spends many hours focusing on a screen, then you better make the investment in furniture, keyboards, and chairs that will make their time at the office comfortable and easy on the body. As we all know sitting for extending periods in the same position is not good for the human body and can put your staff at risk for a career of neck and back pain or sore wrists and fingers. While you are at it, you need to including some standing desks for them as well.
Cameras. Yes, I know what you are thinking...really? Pretty obvious right? Well, not every business thinks about today’s hi-resolution cameras whether they are security cameras or body cameras. Security cameras come in great because they allow you to record what is going on inside and outside your business. They can make your workforce feel secure in knowing that you are monitoring what is going on around your company. If an incident happens, you have recorded proof of the incident which means either retrieving lost or stolen items or an assault on your property. Body cameras help your workforce have a video log of what is happening at a job site or anywhere away from your business.
Wearable Technology. There are several levels of wearable technology that can help keep your workforce safe. They can range from devices that track the vitals of your employees to help prevent fatigue and stress. Some exoskeletons can help your workforce prevent injury when lifting heavy items at your location or remotely.
Safety apps. When many companies think of apps, they think that they need to develop them or pay to have someone develop them. It is always cool to have a company app, but there are hundreds of apps lurking around the app store that could benefit your workforce. Some are free, others you will have to pay for. It is worth looking to see what apps are available to help you improve your workplace safety.
As a business, you do not have to always jump on the bandwagon to get the latest hottest gadget or technology. Do your homework and find out what pieces of technology can help make your workplace a safer place. In doing so, you will help protect the most important aspect of your business...which is your workforce.
