Supporting Employees During National Working Parents Day

National Working Parents Day is celebrated on September 16th each year to honor working parents and pay tribute to those parents who work outside the home to provide for their families. Working parents bring unique perspectives to the table, making them a critical part of both your talent strategy, and diversity and inclusion goals.

Per an April 2023 report from The Bureau of Labor Statistics, the share of families with at least one employed family member rose from 78.5 percent of families in 2021 to 80.1 percent in 2022. The likelihood of having an employed family member increased for Caucasian (to 79.4 percent of families), African American (80.0 percent), Asian (88.1 percent), and Hispanic (87.3 percent) families.

On a long-term scale, beyond National Working Parents Day, employers can implement parent-friendly benefits such as paid maternity and paternity leave, adoption reimbursement, childcare stipends, work-from-home options, and, if appropriate, the ability to bring kids into work when needed.
